Boxes of darkness stacked on my doorstep
Taller than the 100 year old oak in
the front yard, that's withstood storm after storm
Box after box of malady, hardship
adversity - Unwanted, unsolicited
I definitely didn't want none of them!
But there they were, demanding attention
Constantly nagging to be validated
Opening them all at once was their goal
Oh, how they love the game of overwhelm
Burdening; aiming to encumber
Assaulting every sensibility
Two ways to look at the whole shebang:
As a negative or a positive
You'd be surprised, what is all recyclable
I've acquired a knack for turning each one
into useful material, though it's a challenge
One I continue to face; a work in progress
These days the boxes seem to come faster
Insisting on appearing at inopportune times
Prideful in their ability to create chaos
Manipulating situations long buried
But don't tell them, they've done me a favor
Hard-earned, this bright light, I carry within
