The drumbeat of my heart drowns all sound.
Soft footfalls, traversing sacred ground.
Walking on a whisper, you come to me.
In a wink, I'm overjoyed and happy.
Can I hold forever this memory?
Wind swirling around us as we embrace.
Unfolding out of your arms, I cup your face.
My hands, my heart, my soul, remember their place.
We are one, this moment is pure grace.
Butterfly kisses that time cannot erase.
But wait, the mirage fades suddenly.
It is cold and I'm lonely instantly.
Grief slamming me hard into the wall.
Antagonizing the perfect recall.
Your calm voice echoing down the hall.
What is this cruel trick, so vivid and real?
That slashes new wounds, where old ones can't heal.
Makes you keep at the same time and feel,
the good and bad, to turn around and steal.
As ever, it plays a game of reveal and conceal.
