An illusion I had never known
lurked in the shadows, silent, unseen.
I stepped inside and was overthrown,
caught in a thicket, cruel and green.
Its thorns entwined me, arms of spite,
held fast my limbs in a grip of lies.
Long was the struggle through endless night,
till truth began to burn in my eyes.
Then anger rose like a sudden flame,
a wildfire sweeping the fog away.
Clarity returned, and with it came
a strength no darkness could betray.
The chains lie broken, the shadows flee;
I stand unbowed where the phantoms fall.
Even the gods must bend the knee
before the mortal who saw through it all.
lurked in the shadows, silent, unseen.
I stepped inside and was overthrown,
caught in a thicket, cruel and green.
Its thorns entwined me, arms of spite,
held fast my limbs in a grip of lies.
Long was the struggle through endless night,
till truth began to burn in my eyes.
Then anger rose like a sudden flame,
a wildfire sweeping the fog away.
Clarity returned, and with it came
a strength no darkness could betray.
The chains lie broken, the shadows flee;
I stand unbowed where the phantoms fall.
Even the gods must bend the knee
before the mortal who saw through it all.
