The glacial breath of a Polar Vortex has an icicle grip on us since Sunday. Though it started out innocent enough with a snow storm, tiny quick flakes being pushed in a wild criss cross, in burning cold wind shears. Hours thereafter, freezing rain turned to ice storm. Imagine sidewalks buried in a foot of snow, ice scabs thick as glass on roads. Plummeting temperatures 5°F daytime, -3°F nighttime. Snow concrete everywhere; snow frozen solid over many a days span.
And today, a sweet surprise, Winter had in store.

Suddenly, you could lose yourself in that stark blue Winter sky that has a Summer smile in it, contrasted to the hardened bright white snow glistening in our current Polar Vortex. Thursday reconciled the numbing cold harshness, amazed me all the more, when I spot some deer assembling near the frozen pond.

And I ask myself, how are they surviving this severe frigid end of January Winter Season?
Desperately biting into the iced-over pond arm that runs all Season under that spot of fence, when it overflows. The Polar blasted forest and I, silent witnesses.
